Derek Glenn Martin

From the unique to the mundane, selected personal encounters serve as catalysts for my artistic projects. As I replay a given event or absorb a moment in its happening, I begin to formulate an imaginative experience that is to be shared through my site-specific and installation based works. The expression of creating a moment for others to experience bestows a personal feeling of gratitude for the phenomenological experience, event or moment I had encountered. I find freedom in the manifestation of the site-specific work which allows me to use a variety of mediums. I employ both created and found objects, structural elements, and incorporate various display and lighting techniques both natural and unnatural, to coincide with the selected space and idea thus allowing the audience to encounter the work in a unique way.
